1986–87 Stoke City F.C. season
The 1986–87 season was Stoke's 87th season of league football and the 27th in the Second Division.
Overview
The 1886–87 season signalled a new era for Stoke with local business man Peter Coates taking over as chairman. The board back manager Mick Mills in the transfer market as Stoke looked to gain promotion via the new Play-off system. Stoke went eleven games without defeat as they brilliantly beat Leeds 7–2 and Sheffield United 5–2. However Stoke failed to keep up their good form but still managed to keep scoring many goals. Stoke finished in 8th place and also managed to make it to the 5th round of FA Cup.
